A sculptor who has worked for many years in wood and stone, Stan Oglov has recently moved to creating sculptures from found objects. Most notably, he finds the treasures of iron workers shops, flea markets and recycling locations make for inspiring beginnings for many of his pieces.
A resident of Pender Island, British Columbia and San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Stan has exhibited his work in Canada, Malaysia and Mexico. While he is largely self-taught, he studied at the Belles Artes in San Miguel in the early 1980s and exhibited at the Museum of Contemporary Art.
His work has been seen at the Art Case Gallery in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (1998). During 4 years living in Southeast Asia, Stan was influenced by the tribal arts and exotic woods of the region.
He was part of the annual Sooke Fine Arts Show on Vancouver Island, British Columbia for 3 years – winning Honourable Mention for “Ular-2008”. He has exhibited at Pender Island’s “Art Off the Fence” show and at the Red Tree Gallery.
